The apartment, located just outside Florence along an ancient stretch of via Bolognese, is made up of the annexation over time of various premises once belonging to the “Spedaluzzo della Ruota”, an ancient hospital dedicated to the rest and assistance of pilgrims as well as of the orphans (“della Ruota” has the very sense of an orphanage, from the use that there was to lay the abandoned children on a wooden wheel that turned beyond a wall and deposited the child, anonymously, in the convent).
Some false interventions had hidden the original architectural materials and episodes; the intervention, in addition to resolving some aspects of a distributive order, therefore tends to the chromatic and material simplification of the finishing elements, giving breath to the numerous stone episodes in pietra serena present and their decorations. The interior qualifies as a domestic backdrop for a series of furnishings from various eras and a collection of modern art.
