In the heart of Florence’s historic center, just a few steps from the city’s most iconic landmarks, a small 40-square-meter apartment is transformed into a surprisingly vibrant, functional, and welcoming home. This project, the result of thoughtful and tailor-made design, was born from the need to create a bespoke space for a young professional and his inseparable little dog, with the goal of maximizing every available centimeter without sacrificing aesthetics, comfort, or the quality of everyday living.
The interior stands out for its fresh, contemporary, and energetic visual language. A palette of vibrant yet balanced colors, combined with clean lines and delicate details, creates an environment with a strong visual identity—one that reflects the dynamic and creative personality of its inhabitant. At the core of the project lies a subtle balance between style and functionality, between design and flexibility of use: a compact home that remains fully livable and versatile.
The true protagonists of the intervention are the large steel portals—distinctive architectural elements that punctuate and structure the apartment’s entire layout. More than simple thresholds, these portals play a precise architectural role: they visually define the various functional areas without enclosing or fragmenting the space, maintaining visual fluidity and continuity between rooms. Their minimalist yet decisive design gives rhythm and depth to the interior, becoming a sort of scenic backdrop that guides the eye throughout the apartment.

The choice of steel, the industrial material par excellence, is balanced by a fresh and contemporary color palette, playing on vivid tones and light details. The clean lines of the custom-made furniture interact with the material solidity of the portals, creating a harmony between design rigor and domestic warmth.
On the floor, the original herringbone oak parquet serves as the backdrop to the spatial narrative. Its geometric pattern and warm texture introduce a sense of historical continuity and tactility, grounding the intervention in the Florentine context while speaking a contemporary language.
The living area is conceived as a fluid and multifunctional space: thanks to transformable furniture and integrated solutions, it easily adapts to everyday activities—from work to relaxation, from convivial moments to playtime with the four-legged friend.
Ultimately, this is a project that goes beyond mere space optimization: it is a miniature life project, where every formal, material, and functional element contributes to creating a dynamic, personal, and characterful environment. An eloquent example of how even a small interior, when well designed, can embody great design intensity.
